What is CBT-I?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the gold standard treatment for chronic insomnia, recommended as a first-line treatment by the American College of Physicians, the European Sleep Research Society, and the British Sleep Society. It addresses the thoughts and behaviours that perpetuate sleep problems, rather than masking symptoms with medication.

How long does the programme take?

Somnova's CBT-I programme runs for six weeks. Most users begin to see improvements within the first two weeks, with significant gains in sleep efficiency by week four. The full six weeks ensures the behavioural changes become lasting habits.

Is my sleep data private?

Yes. Your sleep data is encrypted and stored securely. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. Your data is not used to train AI models. You can export or delete your data at any time from the Settings page. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Why is my sleep window so short?

Sleep restriction therapy is one of the most effective components of CBT-I. By temporarily limiting your time in bed to match your actual sleep time, you build up sleep pressure, which helps you fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. As your sleep efficiency improves above 85%, your sleep window will be gradually extended.

Can I use Somnova with my Apple Watch or Oura Ring?

Yes. Somnova integrates with Apple Health, so any device that syncs sleep data to Apple Health (including Apple Watch, Oura Ring, Garmin, and Fitbit) can be used to auto-import your sleep data. Connect Apple Health in Settings to get started.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store. Go to Settings in the Somnova app and tap "Manage Subscription", or go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your iPhone. You will retain access until the end of your current billing period.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from the Settings page in the app. Scroll to the bottom, type "DELETE" in the confirmation field, and tap the delete button. This permanently removes all your data including sleep diaries, chat history, and assessment results.

Is Somnova a replacement for my doctor?

No. Somnova is a wellness tool based on CBT-I principles. It does not diagnose or treat medical conditions. If you have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnoea, restless leg syndrome, or narcolepsy, or if you experience severe mental health symptoms, please consult a healthcare professional.
